Ingredients:
- 2 unbaked pie shells – use flako mix or other package pie crust mix
- 1 & 1/2 Hamburg
- 1 & 1/2 Pork
- 1 t cinnamon
- 1/2 t clove
- 1 t salt
- 1 & 1/4 C water
- 2 medium onion
- Ritz Cracker Crumbs (50 crackers smashed)
Directions:
Brown meat and onions. Add spices and crackers and simmer for 2 hours in a covered frying pan. Add water as needed. Put in unbaked pie shells. Place pie crust on top.
Oven Temp: 400
Cook Time:
Begin to check after 30 mins. Done when hot and bubbly.
Comments:
Might not need 2 full hours of simmering. We’ve cheated on that and it tasted the same.
From Bob Sellig. I remembered this tradition and thought it was horrible. My Aunt Marion Kaczynski encouraged me to try this again. Aunt Marion was so glad to find this recipe in the original family cookbook that I just had to try it again because hey – when I was a kid coffee and alcohol were yucky too and these days I feel a little differently about those two “yucky” things. I love how this has Hamburg as an ingredient. It’s not a city in Germany or Chopped Meat. It’s Hamburg! And it makes really good hamburgers too.
