Ingredients:
- 2 slices bacon
- 1 medium onion diced
- 1 C regular rice – dry
- 2 C hamburg
- 2 cans tomato soup
- 3 C water
- 1 Tbls. soy sauce
- 1 medium cabbage
- salt and pepper
- garlic salt
Directions:
In a saucepan combine tomato soup, water, soy sauce, and seasonings. Bring to a boil. Set aside. In a large skillet fry bacon and drain on paper towels. Add rice and onion to bacon fat – cook until onion is soft. Set aside. Fry hamburg until brown. Add rice mixture – mix well and remove from heat.
Shred cabbage. Put half in the bottom of a 13 x 9 pan, then put rice mixture, then the rest of cabbage. Pour tomato soup mixture on top. Crumble bacon and spread on top. COver with foil and bake 2 hours at 350.

From Elaine Sellig. Another great recipe from the Massachusetts branch of my family where they say hamburg. It’s not chopped meat or a city in Germany. It’s hamburg and it is good.
