Overnight French Toast

Ingredients:

  • 1/4 C butter – room temperature
  • 1 large French bread sliced into 1-inch slices
  • 6 eggs
  • 1 1/2 C milk
  • 1/4 C sugar
  • 2 Tbls. maple syrup
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1/2 tsp. salt

Directions:

Spread butter in bottom of a 13 x 9 glass pan and put slices of bread on top. Blend eggs, milk, sugar, syrup, vanilla, and salt. Pour over bread. Cover with spastic warp and refrigerate overnight. In morning preheat oven to 400. Bake for 10 minutes on the first side and then turn each slice and ake for 5 minutes on the second side.

From Elaine Sellig who says to serve with warm maple syrup. Optional is to add 3/4 C crushed walnuts to 2 C of heated syrup. Her daughter Sue told me this was the best thing ever. And now I agree.
