Chocolate Chip Cookies a la Mrs. Field’s

Ingredients:

  • 3/4 C sugar
  • 3/4 C brown sugar
  • 1 C melted butter
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 2 3/4 C flour
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 1/2 C chocolate chips
  • 2 1/2 cups pecans or walnuts
  • extra flour as needed

Directions:

Mix all the ingredients together and then ball up some dough to put on a greased cookie sheet. Bake at 325 for 15-18 minutes. They don’t look as done as I’ve seen cookies look, but I think this is because they are so soft and rich and yummy.

Comments:

Ina Hadam gave me a version of this recipe. I’ve loved it and it was one of the inspirations for the original cookbook. Cookie recipes and cookie exchanges make me happy. I highly recommend hosting a cookie exchange – any time of year. Maybe during a Holiday season or maybe before a graduation or to celebrate last day of summer. Invite a pile (even a small pile) of friends to show up at your house with a few dozen cookies made from their favorite recipe.

Before the party, go to a thrift/second-hand store/garage sale and buy a pile of fun plates. Wash them and add a few of your favorite cookies to each plate. Your friends will understand. They add their cookies to each plate and everyone goes home with a fun new plate full of cookies to share at work or with the kids or simply to just enjoy while reading a good book.
